Constantine was unimpressed by Bompas, describing him in 1895 as "a disturbing element" who "has no use for any person unless he is an Indian" and "has the utmost contempt for whites generally." Nevertheless, the bishop's call for assistance helped establish the presence of the North-West Mounted Police in the Yukon just prior to the start of the Klondike Gold Rush.
